BroadwayWorld.com: NYC Production Endeavor The Wild Root Company to Launch in 2014
Creative Producer Sean Hudock announced today the upcoming launch of The Wild Root Company, a brand new New York City-based production endeavor committed to the development of bold and challenging new works from emerging theatre and filmmakers.
“Cultivating new work and championing new voices, especially in what is still a tenuous economy, poses a great challenge for many of today’s larger cultural institutions because of the necessary time and resources that go into a productive development process,” said Producer Hudock. “We feel a tremendous responsibility to the next generation of storytellers and we’re thrilled to join in the championing-new-work-movement that many like-minded, smaller companies continue to play such a crucial role in.”
The Wild Root Company, which is a fiscally sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, will officially launch on January 6, 2014 at 8 pm with a starry benefit reading of Daniel Mitura‘s GLORIA, a roaring new screenplay adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s ‘The Beautiful and Damned.’ The reading will be presented at The Mainstage Theater at Playwrights Horizons and 100% of all profits raised from the evening will go to the Ali Forney Center for Homeless LGBT Youth. Casting and creative team will be announced in the coming week and tickets for the event will go on sale on Friday December 13, 2013 at 12 pm EST.
The Wild Root Company has also added new works by playwrights Jonathan Kravetz and Rocco Natale to its development slate. Following two successful Manhattan readings of Natale’s new drama FALMOUTH (formerly called ROOM AT THE END OF THE HALL), The Wild Root Company will present a week-long staged workshop engagement of the highly anticipated two-hander at the East 4th Street Theatre in Manhattan in March 2014. Full casting and creative team for FALMOUTH will be announced in early 2014. The Company will also present a new work by critically celebrated playwright Jonathan Kravetz in Spring 2014.
The Wild Root Company welcomes unsolicited submissions of previously unproduced scripts from emerging playwrights and filmmakers on a rolling basis. A selection of new work will be showcased in the Company’s New Roots Festival in the Fall of 2014. For more information visit www.WildRoot.org.
