On March 6-8, 2014 Rocco Natale’s “gripping and moving, powerful family drama” (CT Post) ROOM AT THE END OF THE HALL played to five packed houses to very strong response from industry folk and audiences alike, including entertainment journalist Joe Meyers. With direction by Ross Evans (Broadway’s Venus in Fur), scenic design by Edward T. Morris (Yale Rep’s Stones In His Pockets) and lighting by Zach Murphy, the evening was presented at the Fourth Street Theatre in Manhattan by The Wild Root Company to showcase the latest draft of the play about estranged brothers Malky (Drama Desk nominee Claybourne Elder) and Doug (Sean Hudock) who return to their childhood home for the first time in  years to bury the ashes of their recently deceased caretaker. Katie Chew was the Stage Manager. The creative team also included Sean Gorski, Allison Jackson, Kaitlin Paul, Chris Vongsawat, Gabby Acquaviva and Stephanie Cowan. JOE’S VIEW: ‘Room’: a play’s long road to full production

…”It’s a very strong piece of theater about two brothers who have returned to their grandfather’s Cape Cod beach house to claim the property after his death, to scatter his ashes, and to find a diary that might hold clues to a family tragedy. Natale packs a lot into a little more than 75 minutes, but he has the intelligence and talent to make each moment count without ever leaving us feeling overwhelmed by exposition.

The virtues of the new system of development could be seen Saturday night in a tighter and more emotional script, and performances that were richer due to whatever thinking Hudock and Elder had done about their roles over the past year, and the life experiences that burnished their acting gifts.”

CONNECTICUT POST: ‘
Room’ given five performances in downtown Manhattan

…”The play received a successful, script-in-hand reading in New York City this time last year, and now Natale will get to see his story move another big step closer to a full production, with five public workshop performances at the Fourth Street Theatre in Manhattan March 6 to 8.

“All of the big pieces were there last year, but we’ve been going over it with a fine tooth comb, line by line,” Natale said last week of the revisions that have been done with his director Ross Evans and with producer-actor Sean Hudock. “We’ve just been going over it meticulously for the past year.”
